Synopsis South Indian Classical Music has been shaped by many saints for whom the main path for attaining salvation, or "Moksha", was devotional music. When they expressed devotion, or "bhakthi" through their compositions, they were practicing Nadopasana--or "Nadha Upasana". The songs composed by them were their heartfelt, lyrical expression of bhakthi towards their favorite deities. It is our responsibility to learn and sing every one of these songs by maintaining their musical integrity, by being aware of the meaning and the larger significance of the Sahithya and by capturing the emotional content of the song.
