Towards Complete Independence 1926-1929

R. Kumar (Author) S. Kumar (Author)

The book has deep bearing on significant political events during the third decade of the 20 century. It indeed led to mass awakening in several ways. The revolutionaries did play their significant role and raised forcefully the slogan leading to Swaraj. Indeed the movement was magnified and its effects touched the heart and mind of the people. It paved the way for the constitutional development. The role of Mahatma Gandhi, Motilal Nehru and Jawaharlal Nehru is in fact most significant during this period. The theme of this volume has been placed in sixteen chapters along with an index. The opening chapters have clearly laid down the role of Bhagat Singh and his associates as well as Hardyal. Their role in the freedom movement greatly prompted the common people to the patriotic feelings which were need of the hour. The Simon Commission was appointed during this period. The idea of the British Raj was to assess the constitutional implications of the time. Indeed the reaction of all the political parties was severe and they gave vent to their feelings at a common stage. In fact the death of Lala Lajpat Rai was a great loss to the people of India. Besides this period has the coverage of the political ideology of Motilal Nehru who gave us the interpretation of dominion status as president of the Indian National Congress at its Calcutta Session. In fact the year 1928 gained significance when 'young Nehru was elected the President of Congress at the Lahore Congress.
