Synopsis

The book has deep bearing on significant political events during the third decade of the 20 century. It indeed led to mass awakening in several ways. The revolutionaries did play their significant role and raised forcefully the slogan leading to Swaraj. Indeed the movement was magnified and its effects touched the heart and mind of the people. It paved the way for the constitutional development. The role of Mahatma Gandhi, Motilal Nehru and Jawaharlal Nehru is in fact most significant during this period. The theme of this volume has been placed in sixteen chapters along with an index. The opening chapters have clearly laid down the role of Bhagat Singh and his associates as well as Hardyal. Their role in the freedom movement greatly prompted the common people to the patriotic feelings which were need of the hour. The Simon Commission was appointed during this period. The idea of the British Raj was to assess the constitutional implications of the time. Indeed the reaction of all the political parties was severe and they gave vent to their feelings at a common stage. In fact the death of Lala Lajpat Rai was a great loss to the people of India. Besides this period has the coverage of the political ideology of Motilal Nehru who gave us the interpretation of dominion status as president of the Indian National Congress at its Calcutta Session. In fact the year 1928 gained significance when 'young Nehru was elected the President of Congress at the Lahore Congress.

R. Kumar

Dr. R. Kumar is an accomplished writer,prominent ophthalmologist, eminent socio-medical scientist, diligent social worker, organizer par excellence and a noted public health educator of North India. He has been writing in English, Hindi and Punjabi. He has written on all aspects of health and has over 60 books to his credit. He has been writing regularly for the health columns of different newspaper e.g. The Tribune, The Indian Express, Danik Bhaskar, etc. Besides, he has organized several seminars and conferences to further the cause of medical science and to bolster the aspect of continuing medical educating for the benefit of doctors in practice or in service. Born at Keorak (Haryana) on January 26, 1946, he worked at Nehru Hospital, Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (PGI), Chandigarh from 1968-73. He had his early education at DAV College, Jalandhar (1961-63). He joined Govt. Medical College, Patiala and passed in flying colours (19668). Then he acquired his higher degree of specialization in Opthalmology in 1971 from PGI, in first attempt. He had set up his own private modern Eye Clinic for consultation/treatment of patients, first in Sector 15 in the year 1974 and then shifted. He has been President/Secretary of several medical association from time to time. He continues to organize seminars and CMEs for the benefit of doctors and health education and awareness programmes for the public.

Dr. S. Kumar (born on July 25th, 1954) is working as a Senior Scientist in Botanical Survey of India Dehradun. He has been actively engaged in research in plant taxonomy, floristics and biodiversity conservation. He has contributed ca 100 research papers and popular scientific articles in reputed national and international journals and magazines in English and Hindi. He has botanically explored many regions in Jammy & Kashmir, Sikkim and Haryana and has contributed significantly in Flora of Jammu & Kashmir, Flora of Sikkim and Flora of Haryana. He is co-author of the book on "Flora Indicae Enumeratio: Asteraceae" and contributed in Books on Flora of India Vol. 1 (Berberidaceae) Vol. 13 (Asteraceae) and Vol 22 (Fagaceae) and Flora of Sikkim Vol. 1 He has recently published the books on FFlora of Haryana (Materials), Plant Diversity Along River Ganga and Zingiberaceae of Sikkim. His forthcoming publications include Grasses of Sikkim. Dr. Kumar is a Fellow and Life member of several reputed scientific societies and has chaired sessions in various conferences and symposia.
