About the authors

N.K. Behura

Prof. N.K. Behura (b. 1933) secured University Gold Medal in anthropology from Bihar University. He was awarded Ph.D. degree in Social Anthropology (1973) under Utkal University. He has headed the Department of anthropology, Utkal University. While serving in the anthropological Survey of India he has conducted field work among several tribal communities and caste groups in various States. He was a past President of the anthropology and Archaeology Section of Indian Science Congress, 80th Session, and also the recipient of R.P. Chanda Medal from the Asiatic Society. He was an U.G.C. Emeritus and Member of Orissa State Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Commission. Currently, he is an Honorary Fellow in Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies, Bhubaneshwar, Orissa.

K.K. Mohanty

K.K. Mohanty (b. 1940) did his Post-graduation (1961) in Utkal University and was awarded Ph.D. degree (1985) from Berhampur University. He became a Professor of Anthropology in Orissa Education Service in 1984. He has teaching experience of about 26 years and research experience of 16 years. He was a Senior Fellow in Social Anthropology and was concurrently Director of S.C. and S.T. research and Training Institute in Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies and Academy of Tribal Dialects and Culture. He was a Consultant in the State Resource Centre for Adult Education, Orissa. He is a founder member, Board of Governors of the Council of Analytical Tribal Studies, Koraput and in the Editorial Board of Adivasi, the Journal of S.C. and S.T. Research and Training Institute, Bhubaneswar.
