S.S. Acharya (Author) M.M. Adhikary (Editor) S. Biswas (Author) A. Haque (Author)
Synopsis The book entitled Livelihood, Income and Productivity in Fishery: The Synergy and Choice is a much needed publication of present time. The huge green revolution in India that stormed in the last quarter of seventies has now started withering out in a face of unbearable population pressure of 1.2 billion, eroding of natural resources, reverse transformation of agriculture and non-agriculture workers (53%) in rural area itself, narrowing down of land-man ratio, increasing job lessness, disparaging rural and urban gap, a bleak status of environmental pollution and so many. When the imbecility of economic policy aligning with the need and prospect of poorest of the poor is becoming more and more vivid, the question of livelihood and income generation is suppose to dominate over other issue so far as sustainable rural development is in place. The book rightly dealt with this three pronged aspects of sustainable rural development to the extension of fishery enterprises by increasing yield, securing livelihoods and increasing income in a concurrent manner. Technology can not go alone. Its socialization is more complex, its not ephemeral, rather perpetual by triggering a production process through entrepreneurial participation of common rural people, constantly validating its economic compatibility and incessantly triangulating its social sustainability. The book is designed in such a manner so that a fishery scientist, an extension specialists, a management professional and any kind of scholars could drench his or her inquiries in a most systematic manner. The chapters of this book are so organically linked and sequence that any reader with rapt attention can go across the book to derive heuristic as well as academic values. The methods used are innovative, appropriate and generate unique style of observing as well as analyzing both process and phenomenon of any social system.
