Jitendra Kumar Barthakur

The author is Ph.D. in Statistics and had worked, inter alia, as the Director of Census Operation of Arunachal Pradesh of Indian in 1971 Census, the first one that used the all India method of census taking. He had authored thirteen census publications for Arunachal Pradesh, again the first ones that went beyond providing the population totals. Some of the monographs he wrote were out of the way of the range of usual census publications. One was "Swidden to sedentary Cultivation" that showed that the switch from swidden, or Jhum, cultivation in the forest assart to sedentary cultivation on terrace was a clear possibility in Arunachal Pradesh. Similarly, the monograph, "Land and landlock", traced the ownership and possession of land by the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh to serve as the precurssor to making land laws of the state. The author wrote the book named "Himalayan Transition" that showed the initial effects of contact in the traditional societies of Arunachal Pradesh. "Reform Money" is based on agricultural credit. The author's book "Naga Path" is on the developmental expenditure at Block level of Nagaland and the Government of Nagaland had sponsored the book. The author worked as the consultant to the Government of Mizoram for marketing agriculture produce through cooperation, and wrote the book: "A Mizo march".
