Dr. B.D. Ranjitha Kumari (b. 17 July 1959) M.Sc. M.Phil, Ph.D. reader, Department of Plant science, Bharathidasan University, has a brilliant academic career standing first in all examinations. Dr. Ranjitha kumari has served as Scientist, Spices Board (Ministry or Commerce), Kerala. She is a well-received Post-graduate teacher and researcher in plant Sciences of 18 years standing. She has varied experience in the field of Stress Physiology, Medicinal plant Biotechnology, Genetic engineering for crops disease resistance, Metabolic engineering of plant secondary metabolism proteomic studies of heavy metal stress induced plants and Wasteland Management. She has published more than 75 research papers in journals of repute. She has also published a book entitled "Laboratory Manual on Plant Physiology". She has participated in more than 100 National and International conference / Seminars / Symposia's / Workshops and presented research papers. She has co-coordinated 3 UGC sponsored refresher courses in Botany and has acted as resource person in several academic meetings and delivered lectures. She has organized a National Seminar on 'Recent trends in crop improvement for sustainable development sponsored by UGC, CSIR, DBT and BARC. She has visited and had interactions with Scientists in the Department of Biology, national University of Singapore, Singapore. She has been the Principal Investigator of 6 research projects funded by national organizations. Currently she is handling 3 major research projects sponsored by DBT, UGC and TNSCST. She is a member of several academic bodies including Chairman, selection committee, Inspection commission and Board of, studies. She holds life memberships in several professional societies including Indian Association for Plant Physiologists, Society for Plant Biotechnology and Molecular Biology and Swamy Botanical Club.
R.Radhakrishnan and P.Arunmozhi Varman, are Ph.D. scholars of B.D. Ranjithakumari R.Radhakrishnan got a award of university 'Research studentship from Bhatrathidas university and working in plant stress protein identification and  ' Plant tissue culture studies. P.Arunmozhi Varman working on heavy metal stress protein identification and characterization. He has deposited 5 protein sequences in database.
