S. Murty (Author)
Synopsis The role of women in the employment scenario of India is increasing day-by-day. They are prominently engaged in all activities and sectors of the economy, formal and informal but informal sector is more prominent. Today women are growing, they are marching, advancing and progressing, but there are still some hurdles, some problems, some discriminations, some constrains, some bias and some limitations which deprive the women of their actual share, rights and privileges and this is more so in informal sector. This state of affairs make us to think and probe into the socio-economic aspects of the problems and analyse their causes and effects. It is with this intention that this study has been undertaken and the results have been presented in this treatise. The work mainly studies the social status, family status, educational status, health conditions, housing profile, economic status, position of entertainment and addiction and professional position and awareness of these women. It also studies the labour laws and welfare programmes for women and looks into the situation of the welfare programmes for poor women. The conditions of these programmes has been evaluated by the study of secondary data in Ujjain District. The book is presented in 10 chapters. Last chapter is of problems and suggestions. This study will prove to be a comprehensive and in-depth study of informal sector women and will provide guideline for their future betterment, development and upliftment.
