India's Profile in Polycentric World Order
Synopsis
Today India is a booming economy. World's fourth largest in terms of real GDP after USA, China and Japan and the second fastest growing major economy in the world, averaging at an annual growth rate of 9 percent. India proved itself a responsible nuclear power with an impeccable record of non-proliferation, albeit, outside the NPT framework. With knowledge and technology become the main drivers of power in the new world order, India is registering its presence everywhere, whether it is the field of science, space or technology. India is a well-recognized face on the world IT firmament. Despite drumbeats of India's emergence as global power, the flip side of the picture is not so bright, rather gloomy. The flux position of India in the polycentric world order bring us to a pertinent question: Is India really emerging as a global player or it is just a hallucination so dear to its people that they don't want to come out of it? Is India really capable of shouldering global obligations? Is India ready with its own strategy in the new world order? Or it is just a client state, a poor cousin allowed entry into the mansion of rich. Is US trying to catapult India into the superpower orbit or possible future containment of China? There is need to ponder over these questions while discussing India's profile in polycentric world order.
