About the authors

Emilia Curras

Prof. Emilia Curras is a distinguished information scientist, an impressive teacher of information science, a pioneer in documentation and an innovative researcher in information science. She has projected the theoretical exposition of several areas of documentation and information science and holds a position of eminence in the field. Professor Curras having obtained Ph.D. from the Universities of Berlin and of Madrid has been an Academician of the Royal Doctor’s Academy of Madrid and the Toledo Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Historical Science. She has been associated with a number of committees and societies in scientific documentation. She has served as Director of Scientific Documentation Department, Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain. She has been National President of Spanish Society of Scientific Documentation and Information (SEDIC) and has been a member of the Council of FID and has served on its various committees like FID/ET, FID/CR, FID/IT – This committee was set up during FID Congress held in Madrid in association with Prof. P.N. Kaula. She has been also Chairperson of ISKO Chapter of Spain. Prof. Curras has written extensively on documentation and information science. She is author of several books used as textbooks in Spain and in Latin American countries. She has been on the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Information Science (UK) and International Information, Communication and Education (India). She has received numerous scholarships and travel grants from Spain and other countries from Europe, Asia and America. She has introduced the theory of knowledge organization of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan in Spain and Latin American countries. She has received a number of honour and awards including the “International Professor Kaula Award” of 1990. She has excellent command of French, Spanish and German languages. The wide influence of her works and contributions are in the areas of philosophical and scientific study of documentation, thesaurus theory, information sources, education and training of professionals and users, terminology and taxonomy in information science.

P.S.G. Kumar

Dr. P.S.G. Kumar, a graduate in Agriculture, did his B.Lib.Sc. from Andhra University and M. Lib. Sc. From Banaras Hindu Unviersity, Varanasi. He had a first class career and also topped the list of successful candidates at the M. Lib. Sc. Examination. He had his education in Advanced Information Work at the University of Sheffield in 1978. He earned doctorate in Library and Information Science from Gulbarga University in 1985. He has been heading the Department of Library and Information Science at Nagpur University since 1978. He become Reader in 1983 and is serving as University Librarian since 1994. He has to his credit 28 books, 130 technical papers, 73 reviews, 18 reports etc. He has participated in 108 National and International conferences and seminars. He has served/serving on 84 committees, boards, bodies etc. He is associated with 52 universities in various capacities. Dr. Kumar is a widely traveled person. He delivered 160 lectures at various universities and institutions. He visited UK, USA, La Reunion and Mauritius on invitation. He is a life member of 7 professional bodies and past president of Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS); Library Association of SAARC Countries (LA SAARC); Joint Council of Library Associations in India (JOCLAI); Good Offices Committee (GOC); Vidarbha Academic Libraries Association (VALA); etc. He also served as the President of Association of Unviersity Teachers (AUT); and Heads Forum of Nagpur University. He also served as the Registrar of the University for a brief period. Recently Dr. Kumar was honoured with Panjab Librarian Award by the SATKAL Trust.
