Synopsis The Naga society having tribal base and inhabited in the remote corner of North-Eastern region of India, has been dynamic despite its acute sufferings and painful experience due to ceaseless 'freedom struggle' and internecine factional fighting. The society has remained the battle-field for years losing thousands of lives and immense damage to properties. The peace of the state is still bleeding and unsettled. Despite various efforts applied by the peace loving Naga leaders, the worst of the society is that the 'freedom fighting' forces are divided having inimical attitude and waging war against each other. Tribalism, personal clashes, superiority complex and lust for accumulation of wealth have been the basic causes of emergence of anarchic situation in the Naga society.  However, the society has covered considerable amount of distance in social, political and economic development because of united efforts and faith in peace and progress of peace-loving and progressing Nagas. Despite mass corruption and emerging anti-social elements, the Naga society has reserved its honourable place at national and international levels. The present work presents a critical account of the society right from its inception till date covering cultural, social, religious and political aspects.
