Synopsis This book has attempted to understand the problems of Muslim divorced women in Bangladesh. The phenomenon of divorce in Bangladesh is not universal. Even though, the problem of divorced women is not found in all religious community. According to law, Muslim husband has unilateral power of divorcing wife. But women do not have such types of power. In fact, women's power of divorce usually depends on men's wishes. At the same time, Hindu law does not allow divorce, but separation existed. The problem of divorced women is severe in almost all classes in Bangladesh. The process of divorce also expedites the psychological problems of divorced women. They do not get economic support from the others particularly government and non-government organizations. They do not get even enough psychological support from the family members. This book has focused completely on the problems experiencing by the Muslim divorced women. The book will help the reader to get a clear picture about the marriage and divorce related issues so that understanding of these issues can be clear among the people in general and academician in particular.

Neaz Ahmed

Dr Neaz Ahmed is assistant professor, Department of Social Work, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet.  He has been working in the department since 1998.  he stood first class both in BSS (Honours) and MSS from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, University of Dhaka, Dhaka, Bangladesh.  He obtained his Ph.D in the Department of Social Work, Bangalroe University, Bangalore.  India under the Government of India Scholarship Scheme and Sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, India during 2001-2005.  His area of interest are faming sociology particularly marriage and divorce, family counseling, medical and psychiatric social work and criminology and correctional services.
