Synopsis Adult education, offers of educational opportunities to those adults who have never been to school or were not able to complete their basic education due to certain reasons. In many countries, during last few decades governments have established departments of non-formal education as part of their education ministries and have given them responsibility for all adults and out of school education along with the responsibility of co-ordinating with adult education carried out by other ministries such as agriculture, health, rural development. Non-formal education occupies middle space between traditional school system and formal learning practices. Since a lot of changes have taken place in the national scenario of adult education, it is really essential to deal the subject extensively to give a comprehensive review and growth of adult education in India including the latest trends and issues.
