Mantra Ramayanam

Shantilal Nagar (Author)
Synopsis Mantra Ramayanam was composed by Nilakantha, a great Sanskrit Scholar of the seventeenth century, who hailed from Karpuragrama of the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. In this connection, it may also be kept in view that Nilakantha tried to trace the origin of most of the characters and events of the Ramayana in the Rgveda. In the Mantra Ramayanam, a collection of Vedic hymns have been projected by Nilakantha which are indirectly connected with the story of Rama. Thus from the Balakanda to Uttarakanda, he has visualised the entire story of Rama in Vedic texts. The Mantra Ramayanam is believed to be the commentary on the Vedic origin of the Ramayana theme, duly supported by the Valmiki Ramayana and the Puranas in the background of the ancient Indian traditions. The author, Shantilal Nagar has rendered the transliteration, Hindi and English translations of the book. It also contains Nilakantha’s own commentary.
