Synopsis This book brings together scholarly papers from the 2005 Conference of MELUS-India (the Society for the Study of the Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States).  It focuses on important signposts in America across diverse spheres: literature, culture, popular arts, media, et al.  the essays collected here are cross-disciplinary and engage in discussions across generic borders and conventional dividing lines.  Exploring a wide spectrum of American literature-major authors, turning points, literary movements and traditions, frameworks and counter-frameworks for reading and understanding works in different traditions-they consider a variety of issues related to texts and events that make a mark in history.  This anthology is a fond tribute to the memory of Isaac Sequeira, Professor of English at Osmania University, Hyderabad, a leading academic on the national scene, who was a guiding light of MELUS-India.
