Horticultural Pests: Detection and Control

G. Fox Wilson (Author)
Synopsis Pests cause revere injury to horticultural crops in various ways, direct as well indirect. A classic in its own subject-this book contains necessary scientific information useful for recognizing the many symptoms of pest damage to horticultural plants and describes the different control measures: cultural, mechanical, physical, biological and chemical. The introductory chapter briefly describes the types of pests, their life histories, feeding habits and the general types of damages caused by them. Emphasising upon the fact that every part of a plant is apt to be attacked by one or more species of insect or related pest, the major portion of the book is divided into eight chapters corresponding to the main parts of the plant: bulbes, corms and tubers; roots; stems and shoots; buds; foliage; flowers; fruit; and seeds. The rigus of attack which may be found on that particular part of the plant are described under various sections, alongwith control methods. A set of indices (containing host plant index, Pest index and general index) has been provided in the book, so as to assist the reader in the diagnosis of damage.
