About the authors

Amit Krishna De

Dr. Amit Krishna De received his Ph.D degree from Calcutta University. His area of specialisation is Biochemical Pharmacology and Nutritional Toxicology. He has done extensive work on Indian spices for last 15 years, particularly on biochemical and pharmacological actions of chilli. He has won several awards for his work on chilli which includes Kamal Satbir Young Scientist Award from Indian Council of Medical Research, S.R. Dasgupta Award from Indian Pharmacological Society, S.S. Rastogi Award and R.B. Singh Felicitation Award from International College of Nutrition, Indu Vasudevan Award from Indian Association of Biomedical Chemists, etc. He has also recently received the G.C. Bhattacharyya Award for Popularisation of Science from Science Association of Bengal. Dr. De is involved in teaching as Hony lecturer in several Undergraduate Colleges and University. He is at present Assistant Executive Secretary of Indian Science Congress Association at Kolkata. He is also Fellow of National Environmental Science Academy, Academy of Environmental Biology, International College of Nutrition and Indian Association of Biological Scientists. Dr. De has several research publications in Journals of International repute and is author of several books. He has also delivered lectures on different aspects of "Spices" in different Institutions/Organisations/Universities all over the world.

Sudip Datta Banik

Sudip Datta Banik: A senior Lecturer in Biological Anthropology at Vidyasagar University in West Bengal is having twenty published papers in national as well as international journals in his credit. He had been awarded Young Scientist Award of the national Environment Science Academy, New Delhi. He has edited one more edited volume in the area of environmental science. His areas of research interest are population genetics, epidemiology and small community research.

Saikat Kumar Basu

Saikat Kumar Basu: A Post Graduate in Botany from the University of Calcutta is presently engaged as a research fellow in Doctoral Programme as well as holding a position of teaching Assistant at the Department of Biological Sciences in the University of Lethbridge, Canada. He has edited more than five scientific volumes and also contributed papers in thirteen edited volumes, edited by others. He has attended and also presented papers in sixty-one national as well as international journals.

This is a nice and comprehensive book on multi-disciplinary aspect of environment and I strongly suggest the readers to give it a try.
