Synopsis
Tobacco consumption is becoming a serious problem throughout the world and particularly in developing countries. Exposure to tobacco in any form whether smoking, chewing or inhaling tobacco dust directly influence the Foetal, Neo-natal and maternal health. The book is based on the findings of a research project entitled "Influence of Tobacco-dust, maternal-smoking and Tobacco-chewing during pregnancy on Prenatal mortality, Birth weight and Body size among the offspring’s of Bidi workers", sponsored by the university Grant Commission, New Delhi. An attempt has been made to co-relate the Tobacco consumption and Maternal health among the Bidi Workers, who exposed themselves to tobacco dust, practiced habitual smoking and chewing tobacco. The book covers different aspects of Fetal, Neonatal, and maternal health in relation to exposure to tobacco in any form. In view of its dimensions, the book, which is frost of its kind in Medical Anthropology, would be of immense help and use to readers, academicians and researchers from diverse disciplines, like Biological Anthropology, Medicine, health Demography, Medicine, heath Demography and Social Work, etc.
