Synopsis International Encyclopaedia of Human Rights and Law deals with most of the basic rights and freedom to which all humans are entitled at a global level, often held to include the right to life and liberty, freedom of thought and expression, and equality before the law. Human rights are rights that all people have. These rights do not have to be earned and they are inalienable, which means no one can take them away. All human beings hold them, universally. Human rights, being held by every person against the state and society, provide a framework for political organization and a standard of political legitimacy. Human rights represent freedom from arbitrary interference or restriction by governments. The term encompasses largely the same rights called civil liberties or civil rights but often suggests rights that have not been recognized. This encyclopaedia is of great contemporary relevance.
