Education for Values, Environment and Human Rights

Y.K. Sharma (Author) Kuldeep S. Katoch (Author)
Synopsis The authors were inspired for the publication of this book as a result of increasingly felt need of the students studying especially at B.Ed level for a comprehensive book containing all the three aspects, viz., value education, environmental education and human rights education. Felt need of the students was experienced by the authors during the teaching of this course when students were finding it difficult to prepare for the examination in the absence of any comprehensive book containing all the three aspects as provided in the present book. Apart from being a part of the curriculum in teacher education programme, these aspects are now forming apart of the curriculum, in degree colleges and professional colleges also. While preparing the manuscript of the book every care was taken to ensure that the book caters to the needs of all these sections of the students. Value education constitutes first section of this book and includes chapters on concept of values, classification of values, recommendation of various commissions on value education, description of five universal human values, sources of values and methodology/approaches for teaching human values. The second part of the book has been devoted to environmental education. This part consists of four chapters, first part dealing with concepts and components of environment, second dealing with history and concept of environmental education, third about pollution and its type and the fourth one about environmental hazards. Last section of the book is on human rights education and contains three chapters. First one dealing with theoretical concept to human rights, second on human rights education and third deals with the enforcement of the human rights. The book has been written in a patter quite different from the traditional approach. Structure of every chapter has been given in the beginning of the chapter. Intended learning outcomes in the form of terminal behaviour have also been given in order to have an idea about the focus of the chapter. In order to assess the progress of learning in the achievement of terminal behaviour, learning exercises have also been provided.
