Synopsis Persistent criticism of Hinduism by the followers of the dominant monotheistic faiths during the last few centuries has eroded the confidence of many Hindus in their religious tradition.  The resulting defeatist approach frequently leads to attempts to prove that the essentials of Hinduism are the same as those of Christianity and Islam, and to excise or relegate to the background the practices that are different from those of other religious traditions.  The book begins by exploring the reasons why Hinduism evolved without a central dogma that defines its followers.  It then examines, its beliefs and practices to prove that it is a unique and vibrant tradition with a distinct approach in spiritual and non-spiritual matters.  The evolutionary nature of Hinduism-while remaining faithful to the core concepts-coupled with an inherent acceptance of pluralism and a built in sensitivity to the ecosphere makes it eminently suitable for the modern age when scientific progress is tearing down old ideas, and people with divergent backgrounds are forced to interact on a continual basis.
