Women on Women: A Feminist Study

Synopsis

The term 'feminism' has its origin from the Latin word 'femina' meaning 'woman' (through French 'feminism') and thereby refers to the advocacy of women's rights, status and power at par with men on the grounds of equality of sexes. In this anthology the first two chapters give basic ideas about Feminism and feminist Movement. It gives details about French Philosopher. Novelist and essayist and of course the mother of feminism Simon De Beauvoir. Irigasay's work has influences the feminist movement in France and Italy for several decades. Kate Millett is best known for her 'Sexual Politics'. Shulamith Firestone's 'The Dialect of sex' became a major text in Second-wave feminism in the United States. Tony Morrison, the black American Feminist writes, won the Pulitzer Frize for her fiction "Beloved". Indian Feminist writer, journalist, 'Shobha De' gave new definition to the mass market bestseller with her writing in the 1990s. Elain Showalter is a noted American Feminist critic. The issue of male involvement in feminist studies is negatively referred to by Showalter as "Critical cross-dressing". It is hoped that this book will be of good use for students, researchers, teachers and the lovers of feminism and feminist female writers.
