Synopsis "The many forms of repression and subjugation of women have been the result of the male-dominated social order. The parameters of the status and standing of women are defined to a large extent by the social mores and sociological trends of the day. The present publication seeks to provide useful insights into the position of women vis-a-vis the interactions they experience in the workplace. Thus, the materials brought together in the present publication serve to indicate in meaningful terms the indicators and determinants of women and the prevailing social order. The carefully selected articles, papers, essays, reviews and excerpts have for their subjects a wide range of issues that concern the new woman-the indices of achievement, the contours of liberation and social responsibility, the workplace culture and the sexual harassment of women workers, women in exceptional circumstances such as widowhood and divorcees, and particularly an area study of women in rural areas of several countries.
