Synopsis Thomas Patrick Hughes' Dictionary of Islam has been compiled with a view to give a concise account of the doctrines and customs of the Muhammadan religion together with the technical and theological terms. While it takes into account the beliefs of the numerous sects of the Muslims, the Dictionary is for the most part an exposition of the opinions of the Sunni sect. However, the author has given very special attention to the Wahhabis who, according to him, represents the earliest teachings of the Muslim faith.
