Synopsis From the preface : India is a vast country with a very long coast line. unfortunately so little is available on the armed forces. National Archives of India has a sufficient records on the topic. But no serious work has been undertaken on the various aspects of the armed forces in British India. This topic also is important from the point of view of understanding the colonial rule as well as the structure of the armed forces which the Independent India inherited. Aim of this work is therefore to understand the colonial strategy. It looks into the struggle for empire and the imperial management as well. It covers the topics on the Bombay Marine, the Naval encounters and the Naval Defence of India. It also examines fortifications and the problem of frontier warfare.
