South Asia 2010: Challenges and Opportunities

Sridhar K. Khatri (Editor) K.K. Bhargava (Editor)
Synopsis South Asia 2010 - Challenges and Opportunities contains twenty important essays written by distinguished South Asian academics and policy activists and a joint statement titled Kathmandu II issued at the end of the Conference which deliberated on them. The book addresses some key conceptual issues that constitute formidable challenges for South Asia. At the same time it highlights the enormous opportunities for deepening and expanding South Asian cooperation as a result of some new tools and entry points that are now available to policy and decision-makers. The contributions in the book shed light on the evolution of south Asian cooperation at the turn of the century and offers rigorous and imaginative analysis of the alternative course of action that must now be confronted. In doing so it has provided a useful "road map" for governments, civil society and NGOs in South Asia for their work in the first decade of the 21 century. This book is an important sequel to edited volume Shaping South Asia’s Future: Role of Regional Cooperation of proceedings of First Kathmandu Conference organized by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in 1994.
