Synopsis Comparative Religion is a very interesting and important area of philosophical research and study. Most of the books that are available on the subject dwell more upon the history of the origin and growth of the different religions rather than upon the basic principles, beliefs and practices that these religions inculcate and emphasize. Instead of going into the history of the religions, the author deals with certain specific topics relating to the important beliefs and practices of the followers of these religions. This study has, therefore, in brief, been more topical and less historical. Then again, to make the study really comparative, the author has added a separate chapter on comparing religions on the specific topics taken up in the book. On the basis of these comparisons, the author has also attempted towards the end of the book to assess the possibility of a Universal Religion, which is being much talked of by the religionists and philosophers of the world. Dr. Kedar Nath Tiwari has done a great service to the cause of promoting the study of Comparative Religion by writing the book. It is written in a very lucid style and contains enough material for further research and study in the field. The aim of the study is partly to acquaint readers with the main aspects and features of the living religions of the world and partly to suggest the points of agreement and difference among the different religions.
