Women in Rural Society: A Quest for Development

Navaneeta Rath (Author)
Synopsis "Since the beginning of the sixth lan period, masive efforts have been undertaken by the government to bring the rural women into the orbit of the development network. In this context, the present book focuses on where these rural women stand in the development process today. The book is comprised of three parts; the first two parts are based on a macro-study and the last part is based on micro-study. The first part makes a situational analysis of the women in India in past and present, the rural setting of the country and the plight of women therein. Part two of the book makes a policy analysis by discussing the planned proposals launched by the government for rural development and the women specific rural development programmes. The third part consists of a micro-analysis, to be more specific a role-analysis of the rural women in the development programmes. This role-analysis embraces an assessment of their awareness, and their perception of the rural development programmes, their participation in the planning and implementation of the programmes and finally the benefits they have received from the programmes."
