N / A (Author)
Synopsis Practices in Partnership for Sustainable Urban Development which has been brought out jointly by the National Foundation for India and UNDP/UNCHS Urban Management Programme, South Asia with the support of Bremen State, Office for Development Co-operation and Towns and Development, Netherlands. The idea for this publication was seeded in the 1998 International Consultation on “Local Agenda 21: Building Partnerships for Sustainable Development in South Asia”, which was organized by a group of agencies committed to promoting sustainable development, good governance and environmental management. The major objective of the Consultation was to document and analyze existing partnership initiative for LA-21, examine factors that contribute to successful partner ship between NGOs, CBOs, business enterprises and local governments, consider capacity-building strategies for building successful partnerships, and develop networks among local and regional partners. The consultation was attended by over 150 participants representing a wide cross-section of stakeholders. The most significant and immediate concern that emerged from the consultation was the need for extensive experience-sharing and wide dissemination of best practices in partnerships for sustainable urban development.
