Apart from these major fruit crops, Chapter VII gives a brief but comprehensive account on a large number of under and un-exploited fruit crops of tropical and subtropical parts of the world. This chapter gives details of well-known minor fruits and a list of other very less known fruit species, which can be made the subject of detailed study for further utilization and information generation. About the authors

K V Peter

Prof. K.V. Peter , Ph.D, is Former VC of KAU in Trichur, India and Coordinator of the Department of Biotechnology (GOI) funded projects on plantation crops and spices. Prof. Peter is a horticulturist, a plant breeder and an acknowledged research manager. He is the former Director for the Indian Institute of Spices Research, Calicut (ICAR) and former Professor and Director of Research, KAU. Professor Peter is the editor of seven books and author or co-author of thirteen books/bulletins and 132 research papers. The ICAR conferred on Prof. Peter the Rafi Ahamed Kidwai Prize, the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences awarded the Recognition Award 1999 for contributions to crop improvement, and the University of Agricultural Sciences conferred the M.H. Marygowda Award for being the Best Horticultural Scientist. Prof. Peter is the Elected Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences.

Lila Mathew

Dr. (Mrs.) Lila Mathew did her B.S.C. (Hort.) and M.Sc. (Hort) degrees from Kerala Agricultural University and Ph.D. in Horticulture from UAS, Banglore as a recipient of SRF of ICAR, New Delhi. She has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students since 1986 and guided one Ph.D. and seven M.Sc. (Hort.) scholars. She has an immense experience of 27 years in conducting research in horticulture, particularly in the field of fruit science and handled five externally funded schemes from various reputed bodies/ institutions. Dr. Lila Mathew has published over fifty five research papers in national and international journals and symposia, four bulletins, chapters in several books, popular in progressive youth/farmers fraternity. She has the credit of participation in a number of national and international seminars/conferences. She has served in various capacities in the Institution and bagged the “Good Service Entry’ from KAU. Dr. Lila is life member of some reputed Indian Bodies in the field of Horticulture and Food Bodies in the field of Horticulture and Food science and member in the Board of PG and UG Examinations in some of the reputed South Indian Agricultural universities. She is presently working of Pomology and Floriculture, College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University.

T. Radha

Dr. (Mrs.) T.Radha completed her B.Sc and M.Sc. degrees in Horticulture with First rank, from the Kerala Agricultural University. She did Ph.D. in Horticulture from UAS, Banglore with SRF of ICAR, New Delhi. Dr. Radha was the recipient of First rank and gold medals from the UAS and IAHS for her Doctoral programme, which she did under the guidance of Dr. K.L. Chadha. She has vast experience of about 28 years of teaching and research in Horticulture. Dr. Radha ahs taught a number of under graduate and postgraduate courses on fruit crops and guided a few M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. She handled three externally aided schemes as Principal Investigator and was associated with the implementation of a number of projects 9on fruit crops. Dr. Radha was instrumental for the establishment of a mango research field in KAU main campus for which she received ‘Good service Entry’ from the University. She attended several National Seminars and has the credit of presenting papers in the With Mango International Symposium held at Thianland during 1998. Her Contributions include 20 research papers in journals, 30 abstracts/ papers in seminar proceedings, two books on mango and pineapple published by KAU and a number of popular articles on different aspects of fruit culture. She served as resource person for a large number of training programmes organized by various institutions. Dr. Radha is a life member of many societies in the field of Horticulture. She is a member in the Board of PG and UG Examinations of a few South Indian Agriculture Universities. Presently she is working as Associate professor, deprtment of Pomology and Floriculture, College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University.
