About the authors

Bhupinder Singh

Dr. Bhupinder Singh did his Master degree in Physical Education, Sociology and Public Administration and earned doctorate in physical education from Punjabi University, Patiala. His research interests concern sports sociology and social psychology and has developed psychosocial profiles of Indian athletes. He has been teaching sports sociology and sports psychology to graduate and post graduate students in Asia's premier institute Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala. He was incharge of the department of sports sociology from 1987 to 1996 and worked with world famour sports sociologists Dr. F.W. Gras and Dr. O. Milsthein. He received training in sprots sociology from Sports Central Institute of Moscow. A contributor to the sports sociology literature, he has published several articles in various journals and magazines and has made numerous presentations at National and International level conferences and congresses. Apart from the teaching and research assignments, he has the experience of conducting National and International competions as technical expert. A former National and Inter University position holder, he did his diploma in coaching from Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports with top honours. Presently, he is working as Reader-cum-Joint Director Sports, Punjabi University, Patial engrossed in teaching, research and administrative assignments. He has been member of Board of Studies of Punjabi University, Patial and HImachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He has been acting as Resrouce Person for UGC refresher courses in physical education.

Neeti Mahanti

Dr. Neeti Mahanti, a noted social workers, is the Secretary General-Cum-Director of Jigyansu Tribal Research Centre, New Delhi. She has done a Doctorate in contemporary Tribal Economy and M.A. in Economics from Utkal University and M.A. in Economics from Delhi University, as well as a Diploma in Journalsim from the Indian Institute of Journalism. She has made significant contributions in the fields of Tribal Development, Women and Child Development and Rural Employment Generation, Development of Forest and Environment and Planning and Executing Sustainable Development Projects in Tribal and Out Reach Areas all over the country. She is a consultant to the Govt. of India, with the Ministries of Environment and Forest, Human Resource Development, Tribal Affairs, Rural Development, Welfare and Social Justice and Empowerment. She has done significant and pioneering work in Social Research and Anthropological Research. A large number of her papers/reports have been published in the National and International print media. She has published and edited eleven books on themes related to Tribal Development, Tribal Problems, Child Labout, Panchayati Raj etc. She has also attended important National and International Conferences, Seminars and Workshops; at the United National and other Inter Governmental Organizations. She has organized many National Seminars and Workshops related to these Issues. Dr. Neeti Mahanti has also worked very closely with the NGO cell of the United Nations and has achieved a consultative status for Jigyansu Tribal Research Centre with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. She has also achieved an observer/member status for JTRC, with the world intellectual property rights organization.
