About the author

Joyasree Mukerji

Joyasree Mukerji was born in the same river land of rural East Bengal, now Bangladesh, where Rabindranath Taogre spent some of the most fruitful years of his creative life.  The descriptions of the country find place in most of Tagore's writings and it is with nostalgia that Joyasree Mukerji read Tagore and rediscovered her land of birth.  Educated at Chandanagore and Calcutta and traveling in India and abroad, she continued her study of Tagore and made his works her constant companion.  She has translated several short stories of Tagore's from Bengali to English for journals published in India and abroad.  In 2003 Joyasree Mukerji published the English translations of Tagore's short stories with women characters, entitled "She".  This publication is her second work.  She is currently working on the third collection of Tagore's works.
