About the author

Jane Addams

Jane Addams was one of the greatest women sociologists and social workers of her time. She had written ten books, more than two thousand articles and had given hundreds of speeches. Her writing on a variety of subjects, her notion of social feminism and her work for the poor and needy continued to address the complexities of politics and moral duty in American life. She won worldwide recognition as a pioneer social worker in America, as a feminist, and as an internationalist in the first three decade of the twentieth century. She received Noble Peace Award in 1931.
