Mathematical Models in Hydrogeochemistry: Assessment of Groundwater Quality and Management

Ashok K. Keshri (Editor) S Chidambaram (Editor) Al. Ramanathan (Editor)
Synopsis The book aims at introducing the chemical hydrogrology as an interdisciplinary science that relates the quality of ground water to various processes and reactions in aquifers and aquitards. The main objective of hydro geochemical modeling approach is to determine the sources, Concentrations and fate of dissolved constituents with in the physical framework of flow and transport. The book addresses the issues like determining within aquifer, predicts the chemical reactions including the natural and anthropogenic controls and to predict the chemical changes during their exploitations. The book gives an insight into the various chemical reaction models which will help to understand the chemical reactions occurred in the aquifer matrix, extend to which the reactions have proceeded, hydro geological conditions under which the reactions have occurred, which changes may occur over time and the speed of such changes including the isolate models. An insight into the nature and existence of isotopes in different environments and their methods of interpretation is also discussed. The book includes the application of models to a variety of situations to illustrate the problems associated with ground water hydro geochemical modeling. The book incorporates the above aspects and recent theoretical developments and applied aspects to solve problems related to ground water quality site characterization, risk assessment, pollution prevention, monitoring network and cleanup design under uncertainty. The book is designed as a hands-on, application oriented articles. The book will provide the readers with the knowledge and tools necessary to solve ground water hydro geochemical problems quickly and efficiently. The contributing authors for this book are well known eminent scientists and faculties working in the ground water hydrogeochemistry from reputed institutions from India and abroad.
