Synopsis
Today, in information science, many newcomers without a background in the field are coming in. At this historical juncture, information scientists need to become more conscious of the thought-provocking world we are operating out of, so that we can communicate it more rapidly and effectively to large. In the service of library, the consumer is the user; the commodity served is systematized knowledge-that is, subject; and the distributor of the commodity is the library profession. To perform this work efficiently, the library profession should acquire some knowledge of commodities to be served that is the universe of subjects, particularly its development, structure and the interrelation among the subjects. Such a study is, in fact a necessary to acquire universe of knowledge. This book is designed to provide a general introduction to the concerns and skills of information research in the field of library and information science. The main emphasis in the book will be quantitative research techniques however there will be an opportunity to examine qualitative approaches as well. The book is designed for students who have had no prior experience with research or statistics. Students will be expected to keep up with outside computational and reading assignments the book will also provide the opportunity to evaluate published research within library and information science.
