Synopsis With this volume we entre into the era of Indian freedom movement from where freedom fighters after Lahore Congress drafted a pledge on "Indian Independence Day" to be celebrated with discipline in each town of the country. This pledge enshrined the fact, the freedom from foreign rule was the utmost right of the Indian people and any oppressive government was liable to change. It stated that British Rule in India has not only deprived the India people of their freedom but has exploited Indian masses and has also ruined India economically, politically, culturally and spiritually with demand of "Purna Swaraj" carried till the historic day 15 Aug. 1947, the final goal of complete freedom was achieved but not without many irreparable losses like sacrifices of many martyrs and the tragedy of partition that Indian people faced. Thus the end of one hundred fifty years of British Rule in India. The volume has been weaved into twenty seven comprehensive chapters on Congress, mass movements and independence. About the authors

S R Bakshi

Dr. S.R. Bakshi is an eminent scholar of History and is the author of several works on Indian nationalism and freedom movement. A renowned scholar of history, Dr. Bakshi was working with ICHR, New Delhi till recently.

B.R. Verma

B.R. Verma a well read, widely travelled and strong believer of Marxist ideology was born in 1943 in "Jhang District" nowin Pakistan. He spent his youth living among contemporary marxist intellectuals. He choose publishing trade as profession that matched his state of mind. During course of time he established himself as publisher. Nationalist to the core of heart he had affection for freedom fighters. Memories of aftermath of partition of fascination of sacrifices of freedom movement have been stimulating him throughout his life. His untold intellect has been inspiring him to do some thing for the cause, this all came out in shape of present work. He has still more to tell if health permits him.
