Synopsis The volume Administration and Society in Medieval India presents a panaromic study of the said period. To start with political condition of India at the time comprising of Delhi Sultanate, Bengal, Malwa, Mewar, Gujarat, Sindh, Punjab, Khandesh, Kashmir, Deccan and Vijayanagar. Socially then country was passing through a transition period. Economically country was quite rich inspite of huge drainage of wealth by foreign invaders, but military wise it was quite weak. Administration during the period was carried under king through appointed ministers. Rulers believed in Islamic theory of kingship, Akbar was an exception with a modified theory of tolerance. Provinces were governed by Subedar and Diwan. Tax system was in form of Jazia and Zakat, land revenue etc. are discussed. Society under foreign rulers but who have settled here gave a sense of security under powerful ruler. Country flourished under their rule socially, economically and culturally as well.
