Documentation of Performing Arts

L. Annapoorna (Author)
Synopsis Documentation of Indian performing arts had already gained momentum with the establishment of several research institutions in India and abroad. The research community has become aware of the importance of documentation meterials as aid to research. The present work is codified to suit the research scholars with an admixture of books, journals, book reviews, criticisms, articles, essays etc., relating to music, dance and allied arts. There are about 8000 plus entries in this bibliographical data. Too often, up to now, only the more important treatises of the past and a small selection of modern publications are used for reference whereas many others, written in all Indian languages, never come into view. Consequently our picture of the whole of Indian music is incomplete. The bibliography of performing arts, music and dance presented here, will now give information to fill the gap. It covers books and articles from about 250 music as well as non music journals published in India. These publications touch upon all aspects of Hindustani and Karnatic music, of regional and local practices in music and dance. This bibliography will thus be useful for scholars and teachers, librarians, artists and music lovers.
