Synopsis Libraries and social institutions and to serve each segment of the society is their sacred duty. Public libraries serve a number of clienteles-young and old, teacher and taught, children, research scholars and general reader according to its location. Disadvantaged persons also form an important part of society and the librarians should extend their professional understanding and zeal to service to this specialized group. This section lacks the basic resource, or conditions as standard housing, medical and educational facilities, civil rights etc.Therefore the question arises whether the library profession is capable of providing a meaningful response to this section of society. The book is a humble attempt in jolting down several useful and valuable articles on the subject. Attempt has also been made through these articles that the role of library profession and library education be elevated towards the service to this special group of our society.
