J.V. Vilanilam

J.V. Vilanilam was formerly Vice-Chancellor, University of Kerala, and served as Professor and Head, Department of Communication and Journalism, at the same university. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Communication. During a rich and varied career, Professor Vilanilam has been Member, Adjunct Faculty, Temple university; Visiting Scholar and Lecturer, University of Pennsylvania; Research Associate, Rutgers University; and Senior Travel Fellow, Association of Commonwealth Universities, London. Dr. Vilanilam has two doctoral degrees (Ph.D in Mass Communication from the University of Amsterdam, 1986, and D.Litt. from Bhagalpur University, 1981) and two master's degrees (M.S. in Communication, Temple University, Philadelphia, 1975, and M.A. in English from Banaras Hindu University, 1958). Extensively published, Dr. Vilanilam has contributed to top journals in his field, and is the founder-editor of two journals, the Indian Journal of Communication and the Journal of Communication Studies. He is the author or co-author of two dozen books, among which are Evaluation of Press Performance in India: Through content analysis of Four Newspapers (1977), Reporting a Revolution: Iranian Revolution and the NIICO Debate (1989), Science Communication and Development (1992), Moe Effective Communication: A Manual for Professionals (2000), and Advertising basics! A Resource Guide for Beginners (2004).
