Howard Backman was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he attended Temple University studying Philosophy and Religion. always very attracted by Eastern Philosophical thought he often visited India and was drawn to the ancient teachings of the Vedas and among them the texts on astrology and mysticism. During this time he met his spiritual master, His time he met his spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who initiated him into the most esoteric teachings of Bhakti-yoga. He also studied under some of the greatest astrologers of modern India. He returned to the West after spending a further five years in Thailand delving into the knowledge of precious gems and their powers to heal. Upon returning he further increased his knowledge by gaining a degree as a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America. He now devots himself fully to teaching, lecturing and writing about Vedic sciences.
