Synopsis Social work has a profession and discipline has a reference group in the West but it has a contextual flavour too. Due to a lot of peculiarities in Indian society, social work profession should be guarded against its possible metamorphosis in India. Social work Professionals, both educators and practitioners should be concerned about its universal relevance but they should not be ignoring national priorities and local realities. In this publication the author has analysed the selected issues according to local, national and global parameters. The treatment given to these issues is unique and distinct. Theoretical components have been examined keeping in view the practical problems and bottlenecks in implementing them in Indian Situations.
