The Karans of Penang
Synopsis
The saga of The Karans of Penang took an unexpected turn when K. Shankaran alias K.S. Karan, a blind admirer of the British, had a sudden change of heart when his only son Krishna became the victim of torture at the hands of the colonial masters. With the same zeal, he joined the Indian national Congress, then fighting for the freedom of the country. His whims and obstinancy put his children Krishna and Susy through a series of strange experiences, with Krishna at the receiving end of most of the shock and calamities. To his grandchildren, Krishna’s son and daughter, came the final crisis the marriage of brother and sister. Yet by a strange irony of fate, Balaram and Sarala emerged out of the unenviable situation with their characters unsullied by the stigma of incest and when confronted with the startling truth, managed to find a solution to their problem safeguarding themselves and their families from shame and misery.
