Narcotic Drugs and Substance Abuse (In 3 Volumes)

Debasis Bagchi (Author)
Synopsis Narcotics drugs and substances have attracted unsuspecting multitudes to their use for various reasons including temporary relief from pain or for a sense of euphoria, without a real medical reason in such manners, quantities and frequencies which lead to serious physical, emotional and sociological problems. They bring about a strain on the national economy, ruin bright careers, cause a spurt in closely related crimes, spread in HIV/AIDS (through injecting drug use) and even death when taken in fatal doses. The task to meet the challenge is a formidable one and needs to be carried out by various duly empowered national agencies severally, jointly and also with the support of the United Nations functional bodies through effective anti-drug legislations and enforcement of the legal provisions incorporated in this regard. Shri Bagchi has used a vast canvas with luminous highlights flickering on all the aspects of drug abuse with remedial measures adopted by our national and non-governmental organisations in India and the international community as a whole. With most recent updates he has furnished the figures of seizures, information on the exit and entry points of drugs and precursor chemicals, task of the law enforcement officials, problems and ways and means to tackle the malaise in its entirety. The book will be help the lay readers understand the problem clearly and the necessity of their response and involvement to solve it from the roots, while the enforcement officials will know from it 'how', where,' and 'when' to strike at the evil with the formidable legal powers placed at their disposal through the stringent national legislations.
