Reinventing Regional Development: Festschrift to Honour Gopal Krishan

Surya Kant (Editor) Nina Singh (Editor) Jagdish Singh (Editor) A.B. Mukerji (Editor)
Synopsis Reinventing Regional Development provides a state of the art view of the conceptual and methodological issues associated with regional development process. Regional development has been projected as a converging point of globalisation and localization. This is illustrated through the experience of a number of countries, including Germany, Hungary, China, and, of course, India. Part one of the book takes care of the debates surrounding emerging paradigms, models and programmes of regional development. It spells out messages, which have implications for future thinking on the regional development process. Part second is in the nature of empirical investigation into the regional development policies and experiences across countries. Goals of regional development may be the same but strategies strikingly differ. Part third focuses on the questions of poverty and inequality as a concomitant feature of the development process. Underlying role of political economy vividly comes on the surface. This festschrift in honour of Professor Gopal Krishan should be of immense interest to social scientists, policy makers and development managers. It has much to offer by way of 'unconventional' and 'pertinent'.
