Synopsis Development is a complex, intricate and knotty phenomenon. To comprehend it fully one has to have an appreciation and understanding of various disciplines having bearing on it. Because of its multificted nature, the Sociology of Development becomes a difficult proposition. Besides, the dynamic of development throws up a configuration of economic, political, social, cultural and psychological factors which sets in motion the forces that may ultimately lead to human happiness, progress, advancement and growth, in a given society. However, we do observe many intended and unlimited consequences of the development process. These need to be monitored and managed in order to have a good society. notwithstanding the contradictions and dilemmas involved in the development process, there is a need to provide a happy blend of theory and practice in the Sociology of Development. The essays contained in this book, and written over a period of time, are an attempt in that direction.
