Synopsis This monumental work is veritable magnum opus in which the Muse of history unfolds ‘the enthralling story of man’s performance in the Drama of Human Destiny still playing on the vast stage of earth. ‘It displays the titles of the twelve editorial Divisions and the descriptive names and dates of the 33 chronicles in which ten Eras of general narrative have been divided. History is the slave of fact or else it loses the name of history. It does not enjoy the same literary freedom or flight of fancy as pure literature. Its object is to give a series of true pictures drawn from the infinitely various and wonderful life of man upon earth before our own age. It is a kind of “Rajtarangini” flowing ceaselessly like a river which never looks back. The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of World History is unique among the histories of the world. It has been planned and produced as an original world history which profitably explores the immense accumulation of new knowledge and examines the vast complex of Earth, Man and Civilization. Through its narrative we travel down ‘The corridors of Time’ accompanied by scholars who were the then greatest giving authority of their subject and who could best interpret to us the spirit of the times through which we pass.
