Synopsis The present volume, basically an anthology, consists of eight chapters, some of which are the revised version of the research articles published in national journals. The first chapter is the introduction of the volume that sets the tune of the book by highlighting the evolution of Indian 'state' and making an assessment of the different theoretical perspectives that have been suggested for the analysis of Indian state and politics. Chapter second marks an indepth study of the nature, content and implication of constitutional dynamism in India along the line of the perception of the framers of the constitution and the objective reality that they had been confronted with. Chapter third deals with the complexities of the Indian Federal System from both the structural and operational perspectives thus touching upon the current issues that tend to affect the federal system and process in India. Chapter fourth attempts to make an assessment of the balance between constitutional dynamism and administrative adaptability. The process of decentralising governing system and its impact on the overall process of development and empowerment has been analysed and evaluated in chapter fifth. Chapter sixth explores the conceptual and operational part of the issues of human rights in India in the general backdrop of the discourses of human rights in general. The issues of protests and movements perceived to be one of the areas causing governability crisis have been dealt with in chapter seventh. And chapter eighth, the concluding chapter, discusses the issues of terrorism and corruption as phenomena that tend to, and impair the legitimacy and order of the Indian political system.

Mohammad Yasin

Mohammad Yasin, Reader in Political Science, University o North Bengal, passed M.A. in Political Science with first class first from North Bengal University in 1978 and obtained Ph.D. in 1992. Started his career as Lecturer in Political Science in Darjeeling Government College under West Bengal University Education Service in 1981 and joined the Department of Political Science, University of North Bengal in 1983. Since then, he has been associated with teaching at P.G. and M. Phil level and research. His areas of specialization are Public Administration, Indian Politics, Rural Development and Administration in India, International Relations and Quantitative Research. He has contributed papers in a number of Seminars / Conference / Workshops and a regular contributor to journals of repute.
