Synopsis It has been only during the past few decades that an awareness of the need for a harmonious relationship with Nature has become concretized. While science has been responsible for the larger extent of damage done to the ecology, abetted to a great degree by man’s innate avarice, it is nonetheless science itself that has pointed out the damages inflicted on nature and man’s ecosystem in all these centuries of exploitation. Environment education has finally come home to stay as a permanent component of the school curriculum. Students have become aware of the immense importance of pollutions control in day-to-day living. Campaigns and movements are often spearheaded by the student community in an effort to bring into focus the need for a balanced ecological environment and the need also to act immediately to undo the harm that has already been done, besides preventing further deterioration. The teacher thus has to play a crucial role in conveying to the students the facts, figures and future course of action in this regard. The present publication is a well-structured attempt to put in the teacher’s hands a comprehensive compendium on environmental education that will enable him to give shape and form in clear and fluent terms.
