Synopsis Indian English Poetry Before Independence offers a well-rounded critical approach to Indian English poetry. The book attempts to present and minor poets who have done a remarkable effort to provide an identity to Indian English Poetry in its beginning. Dr. Singh has successfully highlighted the marginalisation of poetry after the outcome of the ‘novel’ as a dominant literary force. The contribution of Toru Dutt, Sri Aurobindo, Tagore, Sarojini Naidu and other poets has not only literary importance but also it provided honour and suitable platform to the forthcoming generation after Independence. These Indian poets were not inferior to their English counterparts in terms of handing of theme as well as application of various literary devices as the book suggests.
