Quit India Movement in Bengal: A Study of Contai Subdivision

Anil Kumar Jana (Author)
Synopsis Quit India Movement in Bengal A Study of Contai Subdivision. The Quit India Movement was the last mass movement of the Indian people under the Leadership of Mahatma Gandhi against the British Raj. It was for the first time in the history of the Indian National Congress that during the course of this movement thousands of its workers went underground to evade possible arrest and to carry on the fight against the alien rule. Bengal occupies a place of pride in the history of Indian freedom movement. The movement launched by Gandhiji struck immediate roots in the subdivision of Contai within the undivided Bengal leading to the establishment of National Governments. The story of this movement in this area brings home the fact that the subdivision with an old and strong Gandhian base bade farewell to the Gandhian era through this movement. The book mainly based on primary sources of information, documents and interviews with some of the leading participants highlights this glorious chapter of the struggle for India's freedom.
